Anniversary Bliss

8 Years and Going Strong

Eric and I celebrated our 8th Wedding Anniversary this past weekend by going out to eat at the Double Muskey in Girdwood. We have made it back to Girdwood, the place we got married, every year except the year that Jade was born. We eat at one of the restuarants there every year and on occassion we take the tram ride up the mountain to the exact spot we got married. It is a beautiful place and we always enjoy the drive and the time we so seldomly get alone these days.

I went on a business trip to Washington D.C. and had the opportunity to visit the National Museum of the American Indian. There were 4 floors of amazing history of so many Native American Groups. They had a Yupik display and some pictures of people I know from Alaska that were neat to see.

I think places like the museum are wonderful places to educate the community about cultures and people who make up the community but on the other hand it was sad to see some amazing historical items - like arrow heads and other very old items be on display in ownership of the museum instead of with the people in which the item comes from.

They had a portion of the museum showcasing "contemporary Native living" which I enjoyed. I took a picture next to a sign that said: Anywhere in the America's you could be walking with a 21st Century Native American" I wondered as I was walking around if those around me realized they were walking with a 21st Century Inupiaq Eskimo (:

While in D.C. I also got caught walking in a thunderstorm and was proud to be using my seal skin purse - it kept all the contents of my purse perfectly dry. Check it out (:
